French Translation software! Is Babel Fish a joke?

April 12th, 2007 · No Comments

I like to read blogs, not only French blogs, but blog written in English. Actually I don’t spend enough time reading French blogs!

Last week, during my reading, I found an interesting blog (not language related at all), and I noticed the babel fish button at the top. If you don’t know babel fish, it is a translation software that enable people who stumble upon your blog to translate it into their native language.

Ok, I decided to click on the French flag, and learn more about the translation.

I read the French version of the blog post, and I must say that it was really funny. I was able to understand the blog post, but there was plenty of mistakes.

For example, for “log in”, the translation was: “ouverture”!. The appropriate word for that is: “register” which also stand for sign up…

I don’t think that there is a software that you can rely on at 100% to translate your site. If I find one, I will let you know.

What about you, what do you think about translation softwares? Feel free to leave your comments below.
